Fly Away
Here we are, Graduation Day. I for one always thought the year 2020 was so far in the future I didn’t need to worry about its arrival. Somehow, I had it stuck in my head that you would always be our little girl and your leaving home to strike out on your own wasn’t going to happen for a very long time.
Yet here we are.
You have always been a Tim McGraw fan perhaps because I am. His songs were often times on repeat and one of them will always be your song. Fly Away or as you liked to call it, Last Dollar. Every time this song played you belted it out loud and proud. I’m smiling just thinking of those long gone by days. I’m not sure if it was the rhythm, the lyrics or his little girls singing at the end that you liked so much. The words “beautiful wings, nothing to lose” and “tomorrow I might have to go and fly away”, play in a loop in my head as I watch you prepare for your next journey.
Fly away…how do we watch you go?
The last to leave the “nest.”
You are our Little Miss, E Dog, Dogger, Emma. As the youngest some might say you were spoiled. I would admit that that may be true in a small way but like your siblings you are spoiled with love as well. You took on the challenge of being the youngest of four and you carved out your own path. Instead of hiding in the shadows you are a light all your own. You’ve had some pretty awesome mentors and big shoes to fill. The bar was raised high and you not only held on to it, you pulled yourself above it. You take a challenge and like a puzzle you organize, dissect and solve it.
We all have a purpose and are given a gift from God. The challenge is figuring out and recognizing your gift, then using it and discovering the happiness it brings you. Find purpose in your life and don’t forget to enjoy the ride. It WILL be bumpy, it will take you places you didn’t think you would go but there’s always a reason and half the fun of going somewhere is the journey getting there.
We won’t worry about you being “down to your last dollar” and we remind you to always “stay humble and kind” You do have beautiful wings and we’re “so glad you’re here today because tomorrow you might have to go and fly away.”
Love,
Mom
