Fall Decorating in the Great Room
Besides the kitchen, the great room is my favorite room. It only measures 17X20 but feels like a much bigger space with the cathedral wood/beamed ceiling peaking at 25′. The wall of windows we planned which includes a row of stained glass is one of the focal points in the room and the other is the majestic fireplace from floor to ceiling. The mantle is custom made by Dave in the same dental block look of our front door. Built in shelving with cupboards bookend the fireplace and provide me plenty of space to decorate. There are two open doorways into this room making it open to the entire main floor, I wanted a step into the room that would separate the space from the other rooms creating a warm cozy feeling. I love this room. One custom wall fits our uniquely shaped sofa and all the lights in this room are dimmable. With the gas fireplace, the natural light and the decor it’s no wonder I spend so much time in here. When decorating I’m thankful I have adjustable shelving in the built ins and even room a shelf during the holidays. For fall I love the orange colors that really make the room pop. The above cabinets require a large ladder for decorating but it’s worth the hassle. Again with buying items to scale, this room requires larger sitters and bolder objects to stand out. A mix of wrought iron, candles on timers, lanterns, glass and baskets all blend especially when you continue similar items throughout the house.
